What a privilege is ours to be able to claim God as our Friend.
What is "fellowship"? What do the Scriptures mean when they say that we have "fellowship" with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
"Fellowship" entails being a mutual partaker with someone in feelings, views, and joys...enjoying communion or participation in gifts, graces, privileges, dignities, interests, or goals...and having a common share with someone, an attachment to the same truths and objects, a love for the same principles and people, and the same source of happiness.
Being in "fellowship" with God causes one to live a changed and exciting life.
What are some of its benefits?
1. Experience His Faithfulness
1 Corinthians 1:9 says - "God is faithful, by Whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord."
"Fellowshipping" with God brings us into a revelation of His truth and constancy of character. He will at all times and in every place adhere to His promises - do what He said He would do. Whatever is committed to His keeping, He will most certainly preserve - for He is faithful. He can be trusted with our dearest concerns.
2. Partake Of His Love & Grace
2 Corinthians 13:14 says - "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen."
God's favor or bountiful gifts are bestowed on us through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His love is demonstrated as He brings salvation to us in our daily walk...imparts comfort to us when we are feeling low... pardons our sins when we have done wrong...sanctifies our souls when we are in need of purification or restoration...empowers us by His Holy Spirit to live righteously...and fills our hearts with joy and peace when we are discouraged or confused.
3. Refuse To Let External Circumstances Control Attitudes
Philippians 2:1 says - "If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies."
Christ Jesus - through His Spirit - imparts or furnishes the highest and strongest "consolation" or happiness possible. This is centered in the "love" of God and is demonstrated whenever we seek to alleviate the sufferings and stresses of others or demonstrate a compassionate desire to meet their recognized needs.
4. Walk In Agreement With Him
1 John 1:3 says - "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ."
"Fellowshipping" with God causes us to share - without contradiction - in the same views, feelings, affections, aims, joys, desires, and plans that He has. His views on holiness, truth, purity, justice, mercy, and love become ours.
5. Reflect His Moral Character
1 John 1:6 says - "If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth."
If we profess or claim to be a Friend of God, then we will be like Him - partaking of His divine nature. We will not live a sinful, immoral, or impure life - a life contrary to His moral character. We will act in accordance to the Truth of His Word.
So many are professing a relationship with God, yet their lifestyles say another thing.
When we come face to face with Him -
...we will know His Faithfulness - it will be evident in our every day lives
...we will be the happiest people - feasting on His Fatherly Love with all its blessings - nearness, power, mercy, comfort, and grace
...external circumstances will not determine our overall outlook on life
...we will have renewed minds whereby we see things as He sees them and call them what He calls them
...and lastly, we will hate sin and not live in immoral pleasure.
Are you truly in fellowship with God?
Then prove it by your life of faith, joy, love, grace, holiness, and power.
